ART INTRODUCTION //

A universal bond with the Scandinavian landscape begins to stir. Where nature appears as both beautiful and brutal: a life companion that shapes, breaks, and renews itself in endless cycles of destruction and rebirth.
A cycle in which the tree must yield to the fire, but only for a brief moment.
From the ashes, a new sprout emerges.
Life does not disappear; it changes form.

In Maria Rubinke’s art, the viewer may experience a moment of recognition. Perhaps the sculpture mirrors a familiar feeling or a distant memory, thus creating a sense of intimacy with the figure.
This desire to connect runs through the work – whether it be connection between humans,  nature, or even with oneself.

The work does not explain itself; it opens.
It leaves the meaning to us.

Only you know.

THE PROCESS //

The sculptures are handcrafted from start to finish, moving through a range of different processes.

It starts with an idea and a sketch. A seed has been planted, and when it starts to take shape, the sculpting begins. Then each piece continues to their travel to foundries across Europe, where it is shaped by traditional methods.

The quality of traditional craftsmanship allows her sculptures to exist not merely as objects to observe, but as presences to encounter. They invite us to feel the surface of bronze or marble – materials that have accompanied humanity since ancient times being shaped into tools, symbols, and sculptures.

In doing so, they connect us to those who came before us. To a shared lineage of making, and to the existential urge to create.

THE DETAILS //

Stepping closer to Maria Rubinke’s work, a quiet richness of detail begins to unfold.
The sculptures seem to expand, revealing creaks and creatures – a hint of patina?
Each detail feels carefully held, as if the work seeks to honour the wholeness of its subject.

Maybe you discover a recurring fascination with childhood running through the work. Returning to themes of innocence and the unspoiled, evoking a child’s instinctive way of moving through the world – where nature holds both a sense of boundless freedom and a deep feeling of safety.
